John started his career as a hospital doctor. His developing perception of the task of serving human wholeness led him to be ordained as a priest in the Church of England.

Following a curacy in the East End of London, John spent eight years as a senior leader in a school helping to establish a multi-academy trust. John brought a Critical Pedagogy model to the Trust’s Christian foundation, enabling the MAT to extend its offer to a mixed-faith population.

During this time as a school chaplain, John set up an educational exchange with a school in rural Mozambique. A suite of KS2 and KS3 RE teaching resources followed, drawing on the global citizenship learning that the exchange provided for.

Following this, he spent two years teaching University of Durham validated courses on mission, theological reflection, reflective practice and contextual theology in an Anglican theological college to adult learners with a range of backgrounds.

John’s doctorate provides a theological history of this work as a school chaplain. His thesis begs an analysis of the educational impact of the implicit worldviews communicated across a range of religious and secular pedagogies.

Currently working in parish ministry in NW London, John’s focus there is on congregational development. He has recently become a trustee of a local MAT.
